Leather sector is one of the promising sectors in Bangladesh. Bangladesh earns a sizeable amount of foreign exchange every year through export of leather and products to international markets. Leather Research Institute is the pioneer organization to conduct research work to aiding the flourishing sector as well as providing a full-fledge support to existing leather farms ( at present Bangladesh has total numbers of leather firms are 930, among them 23 units are categorized as large firm, 100 are medium, 274 are small & 533 are micro firm). Besides carrying out regular R&D assignments, LRI also involves in offering analytical, physical and chemical testing services predominantly related to leather, footwear and leather products, training programs as well as supervising research students of different universities. To meet up modern scopes and challenges the government has taken a three years Annual Development Project (ADP) started on July 2016 and will end on June 2019. The purpose of the project is to establish a modern accredited laboratory to assist the leather, footwear and leather product industry and enhance R&D activities.
